Degenerative Disc Disease is one of the most common causes of lower back pain. Caused by the degeneration of discs from wear over time, it's prevalent among elderly patients. Unlike what it's name may suggest, Degenerative Disc Disease actually can be improved over time with proper treatment. Symptoms commonly associated are lower back pain, herniated discs, weakness in the back or thighs and even pinched nerves. Loss of fluid in the discs, which makes them thinner and less flexible, acute injuries which cause herniated discs, leading to more rapid degeneration, are all associated with Degenerative Disc Disease. Treatment might include putting heat or ice on the affected area of the spine, pain medication or over the counter pain relievers, even physical therapy. A consultation should be held with a back specialists for pain management in NJ. |
